Summary
Compute has finally caught up to the complexity of biology, and harmonized, openly accessible data is what will turn that inflection point into faster progress for people with Alzheimer's disease.
Gregory Moore, MD, PhD, is Senior Adviser to Gates Ventures on the Alzheimer's Disease Data Initiative (AD Data Initiative) and Professor of Radiology, Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Psychiatry at Penn State University. He joins Logan Plaster for this Alzheimer's and Brain Health Moonshot update, ahead of the Alzheimer's Insight Summit 4 coming up in November.
Dr. Moore is an engineer and neuroradiologist who moved from Alzheimer's research and clinical care into AI leadership at Google and Microsoft. Here he explains why "AI tools are only as useful as the harmonized, accessible data behind them." He covers how AD Data Initiative’s free AD Workbench gives more than 15,000 researchers access to 380+ datasets, tools, and compute. He discusses why blood-based biomarkers, disease-modifying treatments, and agentic AI make him an optimist, and what the Alzheimer’s Insights AI Prize revealed about innovators from adjacent fields. He also offers practical advice for early-stage founders.
Join us at the Alzheimer's Insight Summit 4 at CTAD (Clinical Trials on Alzheimer's Disease) in Boston on November 16, co-hosted by AD Data Initiative, StartUp Health, CTRL at USC Schaeffer Center, and ADDF DxA. Special announcements are coming.
