There are 6.8 billion phones in the world, and Hibiscus Health CEO & Founder Kavi Misri wants every one of them to double as a medical instrument.

At the Civic Health Forum, long-time StartUp Health member Misri, who was born with a congenital heart defect discovered only after two open-heart surgeries, described building a facial blood flow analysis tool that detects cholesterol, triglycerides, A1C, blood pressure, heart rate, and oxygen saturation from a 30-second camera scan with up to 99% accuracy.

Deployed across health plans and employers, Hibiscus sees about 40% of members engage with an initial outreach, and of those, 67% turn out to have an undiagnosed chronic or cardiometabolic risk condition. Most notably, 71% of that group then choose to see one of Hibiscus's registered dietitians, turning a screening tool into an actual care pathway. The company is currently raising a $30 million round and looking to expand into rural health, employer, and health plan partnerships.
